Amazon applies for wireless communication technology testing or related to drone projects

On the evening of January 17, Amazon submitted a wireless communication technology test application to the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC). According to industry insiders, the test may be related to the Amazon Express drone project Prime Air, which conducts air surveillance on the express drone.

According to Amazon's application documents, the wireless communication test will be conducted at the Amazon headquarters in Amazon, and will be transferred to the large Amazon customer service center in Kennewick, Washington. Amazon will temporarily set up three low-band, fixed-base transmitters at each test location to communicate with “a group of mobile devices”.

Amazon also claims that these base stations transmit signals on average 5 minutes per hour on a particular channel or band. If any of the mobile devices in the test do not meet regulatory requirements, Amazon will take it back after the test is over.

Analysts believe that Amazon's test is likely to be related to the Prime Air project (ie, Amazon will maintain communication and monitoring of the airborne courier), because Amazon's contact in the application file is "Neil- Neil Woodward, a retired astronaut from the United States, joined Amazon in 2008 and is currently a senior manager responsible for express drone projects.

If the test is really related to the Prime Air project, it highlights Amazon's determination to use drones on a large scale. Amazon also said in the application documents that the above communication test will last for five months, and it is expected to start testing in early 2018, subject to approval.

Prime Air is Amazon's drone delivery service, which plans to deliver packages to consumers' homes within half an hour's flight distance. In December last year, Amazon conducted its first drone service in Cambridge, England, and sent an Amazon set-top box to the user's home. It took 13 minutes in the air.

Triangular Prism

Triangular prisms are optically transparent bodies with triangular cross-sections. It is an optical instrument with a triangular cross-section made of transparent materials. It is a kind of dispersive prism, which can cause the polychromatic light to be dispersed when passing through the prism.
Light enters from one side of the prism and exits from the other side. The outgoing light will be deflected toward the bottom surface (the third side). The deflection angle is related to the refractive index of the prism, the apex angle and the incident angle of the prism.
White light is a polychromatic light composed of various monochromatic lights. The same medium has different refractive indexes for different colors of light, so the speed of different colors of light propagating in the same medium will be different.

Because the same medium has different refractive indexes for various monochromatic lights, according to the law of refraction, the deflection angle of each monochromatic light will also be different. Therefore, the white light passes through the prism to separate the monochromatic lights, forming seven colors of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple, that is, dispersion.
