Infineon promotes open standards to accelerate mass NFC deployment

Infineon Technologies announced that its high-performance communication interface for near-field wireless communication (NFC) applications has been widely adopted and has become a common interface in the industry. The Digital Contactless Bridge (DCLB) interface introduced by Infineon can provide a fast and secure connection between the embedded security chip and the NFC transmission chip. The DCLB interface is a free and universal open solution that has been widely deployed by manufacturers of NFC transmission chips and security chips for handheld devices. Up to now, more than 10 manufacturers have been authorized to use the Infineon DCLB interface, including: Texas Instruments, Inside Secure, MicroPross, MtekVision, and KEOLABS.

Juergen Spaenkuch, vice president and general manager of the platform security department of Infineon's chip card and security business unit, said: "Infineon strongly supports open solutions such as the DCLB interface because they can accelerate the deployment of new technologies in large quantities. Compared to proprietary solutions provided by a single supplier, the widely adopted standards help to improve the compatibility of various devices and allow system integrators to choose from a variety of products. "

Infineon has developed a DCLB interface to provide efficient and safe solutions suitable for NFC applications that require fast response times, such as mobile payment and public transport tickets. The DCLB interface enhances the performance of the connection between the NFC transmission device and the security chip. The interface supports a peak data transfer rate of 848 kB / s, and its data volume is almost eight times that of other interfaces. In addition, Infineon's security chip is the industry's first embedded security chip that has been selected as the highest security certification (Common Criteria EAL 6+ (high)) by the German Federal Information Security Agency (BSI).

Alex Green, senior research manager of financial and ID technology at IMS Research (a HIS company), said: "In order for NFC to quickly spread in the market, consumers must be trusted in the security of data processing and the convenience of technology. To provide innovative products and solutions for the NFC ecosystem, Infineon ’s achievements in promoting the popularity of NFC are obvious to all. ”

Various NFC applications, such as: mobile payment and public transport tickets, continue to increase in importance. Global shipments of NFC-enabled handheld devices are expected to grow from 79 million in 2012 to 900 million in 2016, accounting for 44% of all handheld devices. Shipments of NFC security chips used in handheld devices or computers are expected to grow from 120 million in 2012 to 1.3 billion in 2016 (Source: "Global NFC Market-2012 Edition" IHS Group IMS Research, January 2012).
