Elmos new LED linear constant current drive solution - excellent performance for a variety of applications

After the launch of the E522.8x series of products, Elmos of Germany has offered users a more powerful product line. E522.80/81/82/83 series with single channel current of 150mA, LED current up to 450mA in parallel output; E522.84/85/86/87 series with single channel current of 60mA, LED current in parallel output It is 180mA. The car-grade products can be used as LED controllers for rear lights, rear fog lights, daytime running lights and high-position brake lights, with world-class electromagnetic compatibility.

These controllers enable versatile troubleshooting while being compatible with existing solutions. In addition, the E522.8X series controllers use a new method to solve the heat dissipation problem, occupying the smallest space. Each component has three independent linear current sources, each providing 60mA or 150mA. When the three channels are connected in parallel, the output current is 180mA or 450mA. The LED string can be connected into a cluster of lamps by connecting the RUN function pins of the chip without any peripheral devices.

Advantage

The biggest advantage of this solution is that it has built-in multiple fault diagnosis functions. The sampling scheme can realize open/short detection, junction temperature monitoring, voltage control and protection, and internal/external temperature compensation, and it can operate reliably in a wide voltage input range. In addition to being able to work alone, the three channels can work in parallel, providing 180mA low current and 450mA high current continuously. It is particularly worth mentioning that this solution can design an external resistor to work with the internal constant current source to properly distribute the internal and external power consumption of the chip and achieve dynamic thermal balance between the chip, the LED lamp and the external resistor.

· Input operating voltage range: 5V ~ 25V, the maximum withstand 40V

· Single channel diagnostics include:

- Open/short detection

- Connect multiple ICs by diagnosing the "RUN" bus

· Different open diagnostic voltage starting points can be selected: VS=7.5V, 9V, 10V, 15V

· "Single Lamp Operation" mode (SLM) to turn off all LEDs in the event of a fault detected

· Output current 3 channels, 150mA per channel;

· Thermal performance - "The chip allows power consumption up to 5W, within the rated operating voltage range, to meet full current operation;

· Two parallel linear regulators are used internally, one directly driving the load and the other can be connected to an external resistor for heat distribution;

· The forward voltage drop of the regulator is extremely low, typically 250mV @ 120mA;

· Working in fault feedback mode (FFB), the SLM pin outputs different PWM duty cycles to achieve independent fault diagnosis for three channels.
