In November 2015, the company announced that Dongjing Bolant (PSS Division) and Dongjing New Materials (Plane Division) were separated from the listed company of Dongjing Electronics to form a new Zhejiang Bolande Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. Localization accelerated

In fact, today's LED sapphire industry has basically achieved localization. As far as PSS technology is concerned, there is no technical difference between domestic and foreign companies.

Earlier, compared with foreign companies, the reason why the domestic sapphire technology is far different from the foreign companies is the lack of understanding of LED epitaxial chip technology.

“Ensuring quality stability is the primary key technology for each company's outreach team. Previously, foreign sapphire suppliers have long been familiar with the quality requirements of PSS, and they are familiar with the size and technical parameters. Liu Jianzhe said that because many domestic extension teams rarely adjust their own extension equipment for one or two suppliers, it is difficult for them to enter the first-tier manufacturers.

However, with the price competition of chips in the past two years, the cost reduction has become imperative. In particular, the important raw material PSS will play a key role. Domestic enterprises began to think about the improvement of key parameters of products through technical communication. And measures such as adjusting the extension equipment to ensure product quality while reducing costs.

In terms of equipment investment, Bolant Optoelectronics can be described as a luxury configuration. At present, the company's PSS plant includes CND Track, Atis semiconductor-level cleaning equipment, Nikon I-11D lithography machine, and Maxis ICP etching machine. And the latest model of dual cavity, dual gas, dual cooling system ICP etching machine. Among them, the dual-cavity ICP device is currently only used by the company and Sanan Optoelectronics, and its biggest advantage is to improve the uniformity of the size of the large-size (4-6 inch substrate) patterned sapphire substrate.

This advantage also keeps the company's product quality at a high level in the industry. "PSS technology has the strictest control over the ingot and the flat sheet. Once the PSS has a problem, we can check the crystal from which the crystal rod of the most source is grown, so that the whole process can be controlled." Liu Jianzhe Said.

It is precisely because of the stable quality advantage that the company's products have been verified by the mainland and Taiwan's first-tier manufacturers, and the technical capabilities have been unanimously recognized by the industry, and this is a company that has only been established for more than two years. It is foreseeable that with the maturity of technical conditions and the advantages of cost and supply chain, sapphire substrates have been basically localized. At present, most domestic chip manufacturers have adopted domestic substrates, and even some foreign countries. The LED chip factory is also beginning to gradually purchase domestic substrates.

The traditional PSS business model is to purchase substrate sheets from upstream sapphire crystal and cutting and polishing manufacturers, and then sell them to LED epitaxial chip companies after PSS processing.

Due to the difficulty of the manufacturing process, the price of PSS substrate is slightly higher than that of ordinary sapphire substrate, mainly because the sapphire substrate is relatively hard. Whether it is dry etching or wet etching, the whole pattern is consistent and uniform. There are certain difficulties, and the production process also has high requirements for equipment and processes.

It can be seen from the market in recent years that in order to reduce the cost of epitaxial wafers to a certain extent, some domestic epitaxial enterprises have begun to produce PSS substrates, and some epitaxial chip companies have the conditions for producing PSS substrates, and they will extend the epitaxial devices. Process modification, compatible with the production of PSS substrates.

In response to the phenomenon of epitaxial enterprises producing PSS substrates, Liu Jianzhe published his own unique views.

He believes that when the market is in a good profit and the price is stable, the vertical integration of enterprises will help to improve the industrial chain and avoid being subject to cost; while when the market is chaotic and the price is lower, the lower the profit, the lower the profit. A vertical division of labor strategy should be adopted. The current LED industry belongs to the latter.

In fact, PSS technology is neither independent of substrate technology nor extension technology and should be independent. If the enterprise is doing vertical integration of the industrial chain, once the market competition becomes more and more fierce, this method may have significant risks at any time. Because of the vertical integration model, companies can't do their best in every critical process.

In Liu Jianzhe's view, there is an overcapacity in all the sections of the LED industry, and the PSS side cannot be avoided. In this case, outsourcing is more cost-effective. “Let the most professional people do the most professional things and make the products to the extreme, it has always been our survival philosophy.”

Future big one Evergrande

Beginning in 2015, the growth rate of LED lighting demand has slowed down markedly. The upstream chip factories have also begun to fall into the predicament of “increasing revenue and not increasing profits”, among which chip companies with revenue growth of less than 10% are more. Some chip factories with revenue growth have also weakened their profitability due to the continued decline in chip prices.

Obviously, the future scale will continue to dominate the chip market for a long time. In addition to investment promotion and cooperation, the technology upgrade of the chip factory will become an important weight to enhance the viability and competitiveness of enterprises, reduce costs and increase profits.

Liu Jianzhe believes that after the outbreak period, the LED sapphire industry has already reached a price of one month, or even a price of half a month. In the future, only after undergoing reshuffle integration, can it return to a healthy development track, and the pattern of the big one is Evergrande. Will gradually appear. Second-tier enterprises can form a close alliance and warm up the group by means of large-equity exchanges, etc., in order to counter the pressure of large listed companies.

"In the future, there will be only a few giants left in the industry. Others will either close down or be integrated. In this case, I am more optimistic about the cooperation between the substrate companies and the epitaxial and ingot factories, so that each other becomes a supply chain. A ring." Liu Jianzhe pointed out.
