Ams introduces a new 1A buck converter with 96% efficiency to help extend the operating time of single-cell lithium battery devices

The AS1382 is a high-performance synchronous buck converter introduced by ams, a leading provider of high-performance analog ICs and sensors. This new device is designed for single-cell lithium-ion applications, offering ultra-wide input voltage range (2.7V to 5.5V) and an output as low as 0.6V with up to 96% efficiency. Its ultra-low quiescent current of 95μA and just 0.04μA in shutdown mode make it ideal for extending battery life in portable and wearable devices. Housed in a compact 1.22mm x 0.85mm WL-CSP6 package, the AS1382 supports fixed switching frequencies of 2MHz, 3MHz, and 4MHz, allowing the use of small inductors and enabling highly space-efficient designs. It offers both fixed and adjustable output voltage options, including 1.0V, 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, and a range from 0.61V to 3.35V, supporting up to 1A continuous load current with only 10μF output capacitance. The AS1382 features two operating modes: Low Ripple/Noise Mode for minimal noise and Energy Efficient Mode for improved power savings. It also includes an internal synchronous switch, eliminating the need for an external Schottky diode. These features help reduce power loss and improve overall system performance. Bernd Krafthoefer, Product Marketing Manager at ams, stated, "With its 96% efficiency and extremely low standby current, the AS1382 will significantly extend the runtime of battery-powered devices. It’s a powerful solution for designers looking to optimize power consumption in next-generation electronics." Now in volume production, the AS1382 is available on the ams website, along with evaluation boards for testing and development. Desktop Mini PC

Memory for Mini PC
Form Factor and Type: Mini PCs typically use laptop-style memory modules such as SO-DIMM (Small Outline Dual In-line Memory Module). These modules are smaller in size to fit into the compact form factor of mini PCs.
Capacity Options: The memory capacity for mini PCs usually ranges from 4GB to 64GB or even more in some high-end models.
Impact on Performance: Adequate memory in a mini PC is essential for its smooth operation. With sufficient memory, the mini PC can quickly access and process data, resulting in faster application loading times, seamless multitasking, and better overall system responsiveness. On the other hand, if a mini PC has insufficient memory, it may experience slowdowns, frequent swapping of data between the memory and the storage drive (known as thrashing), and longer waiting times for applications to respond.
Memory for Desktop
Desktop computers mainly use DIMM (Dual In-line Memory Module) memory. DIMM modules are larger in size compared to SO-DIMM used in mini PCs. There are different generations of DIMM memory, such as DDR3, DDR4, and the newer DDR5. DDR5 offers higher bandwidth and lower power consumption compared to its predecessors, enabling better performance for demanding applications.
In conclusion, both mini PCs and desktop computers require appropriate memory configurations to deliver optimal performance.
