Global technology giants have added 5G R&D

The 2018 World Mobile Communications Conference (MWC) released dozens of 5G-related announcements, including equipment, modems, plans, spectrum and trials. Let's take a look at the relevant content.

This week we collected important news about 5G released during Barcelona MWC and information we got from operators, suppliers and network companies.

Intel is conquering 5G phones and PCs

Intel has partnered with Dell, HP, Lenovo and Microsoft to bring 5G connectivity to Windows PCs using the Intel XMM 8000 Series commercial 5G modem.

It presented its first 2-in-1 concept PC supporting 5G technology at MWC, which uses the 8th generation Core i5 processor and early 5G modems and is expected to bring 5G-connected PCs to market in the second half of 2019.

Intel also announced a "multi-year partnership" with Spreadtrum to produce 5G mobile platforms using Intel's XMM 8000 series modems and Spreadtrum's application processors by the second half of 2019.

“We are very excited about this development, because this is a great opportunity to use the XMM 8000 series not only as a form factor for personal computers as I mentioned before, but also now into the shape of mobile and smartphones. Factors." Intel's Rob Topol told the media.

“In our booth, we will also have the first chipset based on the 5G 2-in-1 concept.”

Huawei released the first 5G client solution device (CPE)

As part of its end-to-end 5G solution, Huawei introduced the first commercial 5G CPE, a terminal device that supports the 3GPP 5G standard, using the Baron 5G01 chipset developed by Huawei.

According to China's Internet giant Huawei, this is the world's first commercial 3GPP 5G chipset with a download speed of 2.3Gbps.

Huawei said: "Baron 5G01 has made Huawei the first company to provide end-to-end 5G solutions through its network, device and chip-level functions." Huawei said CPE adopts sub-sub 6GHz (low frequency) mode and mmWave (high frequency). ) mode, as well as indoor and outdoor units.

"Huawei's low-frequency 5G CPE is small in size and light in weight. It is compatible with 4G and 5G networks. The test download speed is up to 2Gbps, which is 20 times that of 100Mbps fiber. It provides an ultra-fast experience for users to enjoy VR video and gaming experience, or in one second. Download the TV show in the clock."

Huawei claims to be the only company to introduce a complete 5G end-to-end solution, and points out its entire 5G product portfolio in 2018: Massive MIMO including AAU5612, AAU5310i and HAAU5213; Massive MIMO Polar including HAAU5112 and EasyBlink Site; small battery, consisting of 5G luminaire products; equipment including 5G CPE; baseband, including BBU5900 and CBU5900; transportation including microwave, IPRAN, FO OTN and WDM products; and core composed of its cloud-based products.

By the end of 2018, ZTE is expected to have a 5G smartphone

Like Huawei, ZTE's 5G CPE is already under development, indicating that it will launch 5G smartphones and tablets in late 2018 or early 2019.

ZTE further stated that it will deploy network products on commercial 5G networks in the first half of next year. China Telecom technology providers also said that they have "prepared to help operators deploy 5G."

The company said: "With the launch of commercialization, ZTE's 5G solution will be launched soon." "As a pioneer in the 5G era, ZTE has launched a 5G solution as its core goal."

In addition to the 1.2Gbps smartphones released this week, ZTE also explained that it is helping partners to perform technical verification through the so-called "the most commercially viable 5G field test network."

Telstra will launch 5G in 2019

Australian operator Telstra has finally announced its 5G pilot program to provide 5G including sub6GHz and mmWave spectrum to major cities and regions by the end of 2019.

According to Telstra's 5G roadmap, more than 1,000 small cells will be deployed in the metro area in 2018 to improve capabilities, as well as 4G and 5G integration trials with Ericsson, Intel and Qualcomm, including interoperability testing.

"Our goal is to lead the development of 5G and become the leader of Australia's promotion, but it's not just for the first - it's about ensuring you have a fully integrated and extensive 5G suite of products." Telstra CEO Andy Penn Tell ZDNet at MWC.

“We have always been a leader in the technology sector and will continue to do so. As I said, it only builds a banner to some extent, but more importantly, we offer our customers a complete 5G solution and We will also continue to invest and develop 4G capabilities."

“Because in the end, although 5G may be commercially available in 2019, not everyone will suddenly turn to 5G, and 4G will still have many customers.”
