Introduction to 802.15.4 Technology

Freescale Semiconductor ( formerly Motorola Semiconductor Division of Freescale Semiconductor ) is an important member of the IEEE 802.15.4 standards body. The 802.15.4 specification is a cost-effective, low data rate (<250 kbps) , 2.4 GHz, and 868/928 MHz wireless technology used in personal area networks and peer-to-peer mesh networks. Target markets for the 802.15.4 standard include: industrial control and networking, home automation and control, inventory management, human-machine interface devices, and wireless sensor networks.

The 802.15.4 standard is the basis for ZigBee applications and network layer protocols. The ZigBee Alliance is an association of companies that cooperate to provide software interoperability certification and testing. In May 2003, IEEE 802.15.4 standard was adopted. Currently, Freescale Semiconductor is providing RF data modem engineering samples to development partners to adapt to the standard.

At present, more than 8 billion Freescale processors have been put into use, the company's embedded electronic solutions are everywhere, and in fact have penetrated into all advanced technology applications.
