Famous Chinese architect--Yang Yanbao

Yang Yanbao (1901 ~ 1982)
Mr. Yang Yanbao, Zi Renhui, was born on October 2, 1901 in Nanyang County, Henan Province. In 1915, he was admitted to the Intermediate Department of Tsinghua University. In 1921, he studied in the Department of Architecture of the University of Pennsylvania. After graduating in 1924, he received a master's degree and worked in Philadelphia, USA. He participated in the design of the Cleveland Museum. From 1926 to 1927, he went to Europe to inspect the building. After returning to China in 1927, he joined the Tianjin Jitai Engineering Department and presided over the work of the Tufang until 1948. Since 1940, he has also served as a professor in the Department of Architecture at the Central University.
After 1949, he served as professor, associate dean and director of the Institute of Architecture of Nanjing University and Nanjing Institute of Technology. From 1979 to 1982, he served as deputy governor of Jiangsu Province. Since 1953, he has been elected as the vice chairman of the first, second, third and fourth councils of the Chinese Architectural Society and the chairman of the fifth council. In 1957 and 1961, he was elected as the vice chairman of the International Building Association. In 1955, he was elected as a member of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The main works designed by him are Jingfeng Railway Fengtian Station and Beijing Bank of Communications. Nanjing Central Hospital, Tsinghua University Library Expansion Project, Nanjing Zhongshan Mausoleum Music Station, Shenyang Northeast University, Beijing Peace Hotel, etc. He also participated in the design of the Beijing Great Hall of the People, Beijing Railway Station, Beijing Library (New Hall), Chairman Mao Memorial Hall and other projects. He has hosted, participated in and directed more than 100 architectural designs throughout his life.
His main works include "General Hospital Architectural Design", "Yang Yanbao Architectural Design Collection", "Yang Yanbao Watercolor Painting, and "Yang Yanbao Sketch Collection". He has also written many articles on urban planning and environmental design.
Mr. Yang Yanbao died in Nanjing on December 23, 1982.
