VR Dreamscape Receives 20 Million U.S. Dollar Financing
In 2017, movie studios and cinemas faced a tough challenge in drawing in audiences. The box office performance was disappointing, largely due to a string of poorly received Hollywood films released during the summer, which left many viewers disheartened. To re-engage customers, some companies are exploring new ways to enhance the moviegoing experience. One promising approach is integrating virtual reality (VR) into traditional theaters, aiming to attract tech-savvy consumers and create a more immersive entertainment option.
Dreamscape Immersive, a company at the forefront of this innovation, recently announced the completion of a $20 million funding round led by AMC Yard under Wanda Group. This round included investments from major film studios as well as renowned figures like director Steven Spielberg. Founded in January 2017, Dreamscape has been developing cutting-edge VR technology that allows users to digitally map their entire body, enabling a more natural and interactive experience in virtual environments. Unlike current home VR systems, this technology offers a more seamless and realistic way to engage with digital worlds.
According to the company, their VR centers can accommodate up to six people simultaneously, allowing them to interact without being tethered by cables. With the recent funding, Dreamscape plans to open six VR centers across the U.S. and the U.K. within the next 18 months. These will be located in AMC theaters and other independent venues, with the flagship location set to open at Westfield Century City Mall in Los Angeles. They aim to launch operations in the first quarter of 2018, so fans won’t have to wait long to try this exciting new technology.
Dreamscape is also in talks with several major studios to secure rights for VR versions of popular films, which they plan to feature in their VR centers. The latest round of investors includes big names such as Warner Bros., 21st Century Fox, MGM, as well as theater chains like IMAX and Westfield. This collaboration signals a growing interest in merging traditional cinema with immersive digital experiences, potentially reshaping how we consume entertainment in the future.
