DigitalBridge report: If companies want to get involved in AR, it is crucial for the next six months

Since Apple launched ARKit, augmented reality has captured the attention of developers and businesses alike. As a result, many companies are now exploring how they can integrate this technology into their offerings. A recent report from UK-based mixed reality firm DigitalBridge highlights the growing importance of AR for future business success.

The study reveals that 20% of consumers expect major brands to adopt AR in the near future, while nearly half (49%) believe the number of AR apps will significantly increase within the next six months. This indicates a strong consumer appetite for more immersive digital experiences.

Additionally, the research found that 18% of respondents are unwilling to wait over a year to access AR platforms, showing a sense of urgency among early adopters. Meanwhile, 82% of participants expect AR to be accessible via smartphones or other mobile devices, rather than being confined to physical stores or specialized hardware.

DigitalBridge CEO David Levine commented, "Although AR has been popularized by gaming and entertainment, it hasn't yet reached mainstream awareness. However, with Apple and Google both investing heavily in this space, we're at the beginning of a major shift. In terms of business applications, especially in mobile commerce, AR has greater potential than VR because it's easier to implement and more cost-effective. I believe we’ll soon see a new ecosystem of AR experiences emerge."

Previously, DigitalBridge developed a tool called Survey, which uses AR to help users create accurate floor plans by walking around their homes. This tool is particularly useful for people looking to redecorate or plan home improvements. With this digital measuring solution, customers can easily visualize new designs and layouts right in their own space.

As AR continues to evolve, its integration into everyday life—especially through mobile devices—looks set to transform how we interact with the world around us. Whether for shopping, design, or entertainment, the future of AR seems bright and full of possibilities.
