In a PLC system, the program block—whether it's a data block or a system block—is transferred into the CPU through a process known as "download." Conversely, when the program stored in the PLC's CPU is sent back to the programmer, this process is referred to as "upload."
Before initiating a download, ensure that the PC/PPI cable is properly connected according to the specifications. Set the correct communication parameters and place the PLC in "STOP" mode. Then, click the "Download" button on the toolbar (refer to Figure 12-3.3) or navigate to the main menu and select "File" > "Download..." to begin the transfer. Click "OK" to proceed.

When you perform the download for the first time, the options for "Program Block," "Data Block," and "CPU Configuration (System Block)" are usually pre-selected. If you don't need to download a specific type of block, simply uncheck the corresponding box. Once the download is complete, if you want to run the program, switch the PLC from "STOP" mode to "RUN" mode.
For PLCs already in operation, you can use the "Upload" button or go to the main menu and choose "File" > "Upload..." to copy the required blocks—such as program blocks, data blocks, or system blocks—from the PLC to the programmer.
