In July 2016, Dongxu Optoelectronics launched the world's first graphene-based lithium-ion battery. A year later, in June 2017, the company introduced its graphene battery into small-scale applications, such as shared electric bicycles. This marks an important step toward integrating graphene technology into the heart of future new energy vehicles.
Since acquiring Shanghai Shenlong Bus in March 2017, Dongxu Optoelectronics has made significant investments in the new energy vehicle industry. According to reports, the company has poured over 7.97 billion yuan into the industry chain. These efforts suggest a clear strategy to establish a closed-loop system that includes graphene materials, coated cathode materials, graphene batteries, and finally, new energy vehicles.
As a subsidiary of Dongxu Group, Dongxu Optoelectronics is one of the world’s top four manufacturers of liquid crystal glass substrates and a leading supplier of optoelectronic display materials. By the end of 2016, the company reported revenue of 6.901 billion yuan and total assets of 46.826 billion yuan.
Looking ahead, Dongxu plans to establish 5–8 new energy vehicle production bases across the country, aiming to create a strong industry cluster. In addition, the company will continue to enhance the new energy vehicle supply chain and drive the growth of strategic industries such as new energy, advanced materials, the Internet of Things, autonomous driving, and artificial intelligence.
