Philips Lighting will cut the number of R&D departments to focus on smart lighting and the Internet of Things

According to foreign media reports, Philips Lighting said on Wednesday that it will lay off 118 people from 350 employees in the research and development department of Eindhoven, the Netherlands.

Philips Lighting was listed on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange in 2016, when the parent company decided to focus on the healthcare industry.

This dismissal plan is part of the R&D department's plan to increase efficiency and focus on concentration. Telegraaf reports that the company hopes to gradually focus on smart lighting and IoT applications.

Philips Lighting told the Eindhoven Daily that these cut jobs have little or no relevance to the company's focus. They will once again hire 80 R&D staff to focus on strengthening the company's new direction.

However, Ron Peters of the FNV Metaal Alliance said, “There is a lot of unemployment in a very specialized field. These people will have a hard time finding new jobs. The only thing that is fortunate is that there will be a very important social plan for them. Help."
