Following Apple, Samsung says it will soon launch Bixby smart speakers
At around 8 o'clock in the morning, tech enthusiasts might have reconsidered their skepticism regarding Samsung's rumored entry into the smart speaker market. During the recent Galaxy Note 8 unveiling event, DJ Koh, the head of Samsung's mobile division, dropped subtle hints about this upcoming product. Some of its features could even outshine smartphones or smartwatches. DJ Koh confirmed that Samsung is indeed working on a smart speaker and it won't be long before it hits the market, opening up new opportunities.
Previously, whispers of Samsung creating a smart speaker equipped with Bixby, its voice assistant, began circulating shortly after Apple introduced its HomePod. Initially, this seemed like Samsung’s attempt to keep pace with Apple. However, according to recent updates, Samsung appears to have paused these plans, at least temporarily. They believe the smart speaker market isn’t large enough and is already quite saturated, making it difficult for them to gain a competitive edge.
If DJ Koh's remarks hold true, we might see Samsung’s smart speaker debut next week or at IFA. While he didn't explicitly mention launching a product with Bixby, Samsung has heavily invested in Bixby on the smartphone front, and there’s still significant potential for growth.
