Design of a new EEG monitoring TCI syringe pump based on M3352 industrial control core board

**1.1 Background Event** During surgical procedures, administering anesthesia beyond the recommended dosage can lead to serious complications like cardiac and respiratory arrest, potentially causing irreversible brain damage. Traditionally, anesthesiologists relied solely on their experience to manage the dosage. However, the advent of the EEG monitoring TCI injection pump has revolutionized this process. By integrating BIS (electroencephalogram monitoring) with TCI (target-controlled infusion), this innovative device provides a personalized approach to sedation, significantly reducing the risks associated with anesthesia. **1.2 EEG Monitoring TCI Syringe Pump Control Board Functional Requirements** Building upon traditional syringe pumps, the EEG monitoring TCI syringe pump incorporates data from the EEG analyzer to determine the precise amount and rate of drug delivery. This makes the injection process more scientific and secure. The control board's primary functions include: - **Display Interface**: A 7-inch or larger true-color LCD display with touchscreen capability. - **RS-232 Interface**: Connects to the EEG analyzer for real-time data exchange. - **PWM Output**: Controls the injection motor for accurate dosing. - **ADC Input**: Collects position data from the injection tubing. - **Sound Card**: Provides audible feedback during the injection process. - **Ethernet Connectivity**: Facilitates data upload to a central server for remote monitoring. **1.3 Challenges in Designing the EEG Monitoring TCI Syringe Pump Control Board** Despite its potential benefits, designing such a device presented several challenges: 1. **Touchscreen 'Flying Points' and Frequent Errors** The four-wire resistive touchscreen often exhibited erratic behavior, leading to incorrect operations. Occasionally, the system would crash, necessitating a reboot. 3. **Unreliable Power-off Restart** When the device was shut down abruptly, it occasionally failed to start correctly. This issue was traced back to the loss of the operating system's file system after power loss. This problem manifested across multiple prototype units, significantly impacting product reliability. **1.4 Our Solution** In response to these challenges, ZLG Zhiyuan Electronics proposed the M3352 industrial control core board to expedite product development. The M3352 core board, equipped with a Cortex-A8 processor running at 800 MHz, offers over four times the performance of standard ARM9 processors. Furthermore, the core board underwent rigorous stress testing, ensuring stability across various sectors, including healthcare, energy, and defense. 3. **Ensuring Reliable File Systems** Repeated power-off restart failures were traced to file system corruption. To address this, we conducted extensive testing on the M3352 core board, confirming that the file system remained intact even after 100,000 power cycles. **1.5 Recommended Products** The M3352 core board, designed to meet industrial standards, demonstrates robustness under extreme conditions.
