ChinaJoy2017: Low-key bloom Microsoft MR device
From July 27th to July 30th, 2017, the 15th ChinaJoy took place at the Shanghai New International Expo Center, with the theme "15 Years of Peers, Sharing Pan-Fun Entertainment." This year's event spanned 15 exhibition halls, covering 170,000 square meters, and brought together nearly a thousand domestic and international companies. The expo featured everything from PC online games, mobile games, and console games to VR/AR experiences, esports, animation, film, TV, music, and internet literature.
As expected, Microsoft didn’t miss out on this massive event. Their booth was located in Hall E7, right across from their long-time rival, Sony. Interestingly enough, Microsoft’s booth didn’t feature a VR experience zone, given that their MR (Mixed Reality) headsets hadn’t been officially launched yet. Instead, they highlighted a somatosensory gaming experience zone powered by the Kinect camera. Watching cosplayers groove to the rhythm was quite entertaining.
Just when I thought Microsoft might be falling behind in the VR space, I stumbled upon a display case tucked away in the corner. Inside were samples of their upcoming MR headset prototypes alongside the latest Xbox consoles. My colleagues couldn’t resist striking poses for photos, making it clear how excited they were about these cutting-edge products.
Dell’s prototype headset looked sleek and futuristic, promising immersive experiences that could redefine gaming. Over at HP’s booth, their version seemed equally impressive, blending advanced technology with ergonomic design. Meanwhile, Acer’s take on the future of mixed reality stood out with its bold colors and innovative features. Even Lenovo joined the race with their own prototype, showcasing what could be the next big leap in wearable tech.
Of course, no discussion of Microsoft’s presence would be complete without mentioning the two powerhouse gaming consoles: Xbox One S and Xbox One X. These machines are nothing short of game-changers, offering unparalleled performance and graphics quality. Whether you’re a casual gamer or a hardcore enthusiast, these devices promise to deliver unforgettable experiences.
As someone who attended the event, I can say that ChinaJoy wasn’t just about showcasing hardware—it was a celebration of creativity, innovation, and community. It felt like stepping into a world where imagination knows no bounds. If you missed it this year, mark your calendars for next time because this is one show you don’t want to miss!
