US Department of Energy plans to revise LED bulb energy test procedures

From the Ningbo Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, the US Department of Energy (DOE) recently proposed a new energy test procedure for light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs, and China's stakeholders should pay attention to it.

It is understood that the proposal clarifies the method of measuring lumen output, output power and relative spectrum to determine the correlated color temperature. The rule also proposes a method for calculating the life of an LED bulb, defining the lifetime of the LED bulb as the length of time that the lumen is maintained to 70%, and increasing the calculation of the efficacy and color rendering index of the LED bulb.

The US Department of Energy also recently issued a supplemental notice to revise the definition of “lifetime” to better match the statutory definitions in the Energy Policy and Conservation Act of 1975. . The DOE proposes a new definition of "failure time" to support the definition of the revised "lifetime". Stakeholders can submit relevant comments, data and information by August 4.

If the lithium-ion battery pack is discharged to 80%, you can still get a good lifespan. But doing that with a lead-acid battery will damage its lifespan. Generally, a lead-acid battery can only use fifty percent of the discharge. The recharge time is quicker on a lithium product as well especially if we have a charger that`s large enough to put the capacity back. The lithium-ion battery packs have a low self-discharge rate of only 1-2% per month.


5. Less Maintenance

When using lead-acid batteries for power supply, regular maintenance is essential to ensure the battery performance. However, when purchasing lithium-ion batteries for power use, less maintenance is required. The lithium-ion cells is more stable with good performance. It saves a lot of time for maintenance and cost for replacement.
