Analysis on the Export Situation of Lighting Fixtures in Zhejiang Province in the First Three Quarters

Zhejiang Province is one of the major export regions for lighting fixtures in China. According to customs statistics, Zhejiang exported 1.78 billion US dollars in the first three quarters of 2010, which is an increase of 38% from the same period of last year (the same below). The main characteristics of its exports are as follows:

1, the monthly export value hit a record high

Since April of this year, the scale of Zhejiang's lamps and lanterns exports has been rising for six consecutive months. It reached US$330 million in September, an increase of 49.4% year-on-year, and an increase of 14.1% from the previous month. The export value in one month reached a record high.

2. Most of the exports are made by general trade

In the first three quarters, Zhejiang exported 1.67 billion U.S. dollars of lamps and lanterns by general trade, an increase of 36.8%, accounting for 93.8% of the total export value of lamps and lanterns of Zhejiang Province during the same period; exporting 110 million U.S. dollars by processing trade, an increase of 59%, accounting for 6.2%.

3. Private companies are the main force for exports and their growth is significant.

In the first three quarters, Zhejiang's private companies exported 860 million US dollars of lamps and lanterns, an increase of 53.3%, accounting for 48.3% of the total value of Zhejiang's lamps and lanterns exports during the same period. In the same period, foreign-invested enterprises in Zhejiang Province exported 570 million U.S. dollars worth of lamps, an increase of 25.9%, accounting for 32%; state-owned enterprises exported 190 million U.S. dollars, up 27.4%, accounting for 10.7%; collective enterprises exported 160 million U.S. dollars, up 26.9%, accounting for 9% .

4. The EU is the largest market for the export of lamps and lanterns in Zhejiang Province and exports faster to emerging markets such as Russia.

In the first three quarters, Zhejiang exported US$1 billion to the EU, an increase of 42.4%, which accounted for 56.2% of the total value of Zhejiang's lamps exported during the same period; exports to the United States were US$230 million, an increase of 43.1%, accounting for 12.9%; and exports to Russia were 0.6 billion. The U.S. dollar rose 1.2 times, accounting for 3.4%.

The first three quarters, the main reason for the significant increase in the export of lamps and lanterns in Zhejiang Province

1. The recovery of external demand, especially the gradual release of demand for inventory replacement, has increased the demand for lamps in the international market.

Since the outbreak of the global financial crisis at the end of 2008, orders from Europe and the United States and other countries and regions have decreased significantly, and inventory has declined. With destocking approaching the end of last year and the gradual recovery of the global economy, the demand for light fixtures in the international market began to pick up, prompting importers to replenish large quantities of goods. In addition, with the advent of Western traditional festivals such as Halloween and Christmas, Europe and the United States have entered the season of holiday lighting consumption, which has led to the rapid growth of lamp exports in our province.

2. The competitiveness of domestic lighting companies in the international market continues to increase.

In recent years, large-scale foreign lighting companies have gradually entered China. For example, Philips, the largest lighting manufacturer in Europe, has established a lighting joint venture in Shanghai, and US lighting manufacturer Thorn has established wholly-owned enterprises in Guangzhou and Tianjin. The presence of these lamps and lanterns companies brought internationally advanced lighting production and design concepts, which provided a close-range learning opportunity for lighting companies in Zhejiang Province that are “good at imitating”, thus boosting their own technical standards and design levels. In addition, residents of developed countries have put forward new requirements for lamps and lanterns, and the pursuit of “functional subdivision, high-tech, multi-functionality, design fashion, energy saving and environmental protection” and other concepts will also create new demands for high-end lighting. This is also a Chinese lighting company. Possessed potential market space.

3. The development of emerging markets has promoted the growth of exports.

With the continuous strengthening of the ability to deal with international trade barriers, lighting companies in Zhejiang Province have increased their efforts in the development of emerging markets. In the first three quarters of this year, Zhejiang Province has achieved very good results in the development of emerging markets such as Latin America and Russia. In particular, Russia exported 60 million U.S. dollars worth of lamps and lanterns, an increase of 1.2 times. This is an extremely strong increase, which has led to the export of lamps and lanterns.

It is worth noting that the domestic lighting industry still faces the embarrassing situation of a small company and weak market competitiveness. According to statistics, China's top 10 lighting companies such as Op, NVC, Fozhao and TCL have a total market share of less than 13%. The decentralization of corporate power has led to low independent research and development capabilities, lack of core technologies, and low value-added products. For example, the core patents for LED lighting currently are basically controlled by Japan’s Nichia, Toyota Synthetic, Toshiba, US Cree, OSRAM and other companies in Germany. These companies use their own core patents and have a strict patent network to limit other issues. National LED lighting development. Therefore, breaking the core technology and reducing the technical cost have become the bottleneck for the future development of the domestic lighting industry. Suggestions for this:

1. Increase investment in science and technology, master core technologies, promote industrial upgrading, and increase the added value and competitiveness of products;

2. Guide domestic lighting companies to speed up reorganization and integration, increase industrial concentration, strengthen the cultivation of large enterprises with independent brands and independent innovation capabilities, and enhance their international competitiveness;

3. Optimize the export market structure, actively explore diversified overseas markets, and diversify trade risks.
