Seoul Semiconductor exhibited a white L for lighting with a luminous efficiency of 84 lm/W...

Seoul Semiconductor of South Korea has developed the industry's brightest white LED with a maximum beam of up to 98 lm at 350 mA, and was exhibited at CEATEC JAPAN 2006. The luminous efficiency is 84 lm/W, and the intended use is lighting equipment. It is reported that mass production will begin before the end of 2006, and no later than the first quarter of 2007. The first to be put into production will be a variety of 65 lm beams when the input current is 350 mA. The white LED is composed of a combination of a yellow fluorescent material on a blue LED, and the luminescence spectrum is similar to white. The blue LED chip is a product of Cree, USA, and the size is about 1mm square. In addition, Seoul Semiconductor also exhibited a bulb-colored white LED made with reduced color temperature. The maximum beam is 67 lm at an input current of 350 mA and the luminous efficiency is 57 lm/W. The product is expected to begin mass production of 52lm beam products as early as the end of 2006. In addition, Seoul Semiconductor has secured a white LED patent license from Cree while also ensuring a stable supply of blue LED chips.
